The singing sensation first met his wife Majella on the Spanish island – where her parents owned and operated a bar.

After meeting in Tenerife, Daniel and Majella were married within three years.

Despite the couple’s intimate attachment to the Canary Islands, Daniel has ruled out making a permanent move there – for the foreseeable future.

He told RSVP: “We like it the way it is. We enjoy having the opportunity to travel there and we like coming home again.

“We might go away somewhere on holidays, but we’re equally happy staying at home here in Donegal doing nothing. We like to do what we want to do. We do the same things that other people do.”

He added: “Time off is a novelty to us because we can’t always be at whatever is going on in our friends’ and family’s lives.

“So it’s lovely when we’ve the opportunity to be around. We love going to Tenerife as well and we love spending time with our grandchildren.”

Daniel’s life at home with Majella is imporant to him. And he opened up on their relationship and the time they first met in the Canaries.

He said: “I feel blessed. We have a lovely life together and Siobhan and Michael have brought me great joy, as have the grandchildren. I would have had none of that if I hadn’t met Majella. She brought so much in one package.

“We seemed to click and there was something different. Everyone says that there’s something different about the person who is right for you. We’re lucky that both of us felt the same way.”

Aside from his family and home in Donegal, Daniel also has a booming singing and TV career keeping him in Ireland.

Recently the Donegal crooner was confirmed to be back on TG4 with Opry le Daniel.

The show returned in October and saw him host a string of the biggest names in country music for an exciting concert special.

Recorded before a live audience, the exciting programme was TG4’s highest rated country music series of 2023.

STAR’S RETURN

The show offers a different music theme each episode as a host of special guests join Daniel on stage to perform all their favourite tunes.

Aired from the INEC in Killarney, Opry le Daniel has hosted some of the biggest names in country music.

Stars such as Charley Pride, Crystal Gayle and Rita Coolidge to Ireland’s home-grown talent of Margo, Mike Denver, and Louise Morrisey have appeared on the show.

Episode one saw stars such as Jimmy Buckley, Mike Denver and, all the way from Branson, Missouri, USA the renowned Teddy Bear Song recording artist Barbara Fairchild.

In the following weeks, the show has featured new artists who have never before performed on the Opry stage, including Eurovision song contest winner Dana.

A Women’s Heart singer Frances Black and newcomers Gavin Gribben and Chrissy Mac will also take centre stage at the venue over the next few episodes.
