ALTHOUGH there are no set rules when it comes to weddings, most people usually expect any grub provided at the big day to be covered by the newlyweds.
But one Reddit user has revealed they were made to pay for their own for at the reception of their friend’s wedding, and the worst part is they had no idea beforehand.

The guest admitted that the couple, both in the 30s, were more like “good acquaintances” rather than friends, but he accepted the invitation anyway and looked forward to celebrating with them.
The whole day was a pretty low-key affair, with the ceremony held at the local courthouse.
“I didn’t expect any form of party after the courthouse, because that’s just how they are and that’s fine,” the guest explained.
But to their surprise there was a meal afterwards, and the groom even ordered appetisers for everyone, something the guest thought was a nice gesture.
But as the meal drew to a close it became apparent that everyone was expected to pay for their own food and drinks, including the appetisers ordered by the groom.
“I’ve never heard of this before, because here, when you’re invited to a wedding, costs are covered and you make sure to cover yourself and add some more with your gift,” they explained on Reddit.
“It was a coincidence that I even had money on me, not guaranteed if I go to a wedding.
“If I hadn’t suspected the need to pay from what I overheard, I would’ve just walked off,” they admitted.
After sharing the story people couldn’t believe the couple expected all of their guests to pay their own way.
One said: ” would’ve refused to pay, and I would’ve taken the gift back.
“They don’t deserve anything when they pull this crap without telling anyone ahead of time.”
“You should’ve just walked off. It’s their obligation to provide a meal,” a second agreed.
Meanwhile, one bride was stunned by the awkward meal confession, she said: “I can’t imagine expecting any guest to pay for anything at a wedding.
“My husband and I had a morning beach wedding and a wedding breakfast afterwards at a local beach front bar and restaurant.
“When meeting ahead of time with the event coordinator we made sure that he knew that any alcohol drinks the guests ordered were to be put on our tab (coffee, juice and tea was placed at the buffet).
“At the end of the event I was mortified to see the servers handing tabs to our guests (communication breakdown I guess). My husband and I swooped in quickly to correct the situation.”
