A WOMAN has left people gobsmacked after showing off a dress that she’s chosen for her friend’s wedding.
The anonymous woman explained that she bought the red dress specially for the Catholic wedding, but after an unexpected comment from a friend, she is now not sure whether to wear it or not.

Posting on Reddit, on the Weddingattireapproval thread, the anonymous woman titled her post ‘Is this appropriate for a formal wedding?’
She then shared a picture of her posing in the red maxi dress, which has short sleeves and a plunge neckline.
The young woman styled the frock with a pair of white heels, and alongside the post, she wrote: “I bought this dress for a wedding on Saturday.”
But the Reddit user confirmed that her friend was left wondering whether the bride had been informed about the red dress.
The woman added: “I showed my friend and they asked if the bride knew I was wearing red…”
The brunette beauty then asked: “Is wearing red really a big no no?”
Following this, the fashionista confirmed: “It’s a Catholic wedding in California.”
The Reddit post was shared just two days ago, but has clearly left many totally stunned, as users flocked to the comments to share their thoughts on the woman’s frock.
But social media users were left divided by the dress – whilst some thought it was ‘gorgeous’, many were concerned that it wasn’t appropriate and was too “attention seeking”.
Not only this, but many described the bust cups as ‘weird’ and slammed the ‘wrinkled’ material.
One person said: “It looks very casual and I don’t like how the cups sit.
“It’s very chest-focused? And I’m just as busty, but this is just a lot.”
Another added: “The bust cups look weird, the dress is wrinkled and it really doesn’t look “formal” just like a long dress.
Wedding Guest Outfit Etiquette
If you're struggling to decided on a dress to see you through wedding season, here's a few rules on what not to wear so you don't get in trouble.
- Folklore says that wearing red at a wedding means you slept with the groom.
- Casual attire like jeans and flip flops should always be avoided.
- Any colour that could be picked up as white or cream – even if it’s not.
- Most would agree that your cleavage needs to be covered.
- Wearing white is a massive no-no if you’re not the bride.
“The colour red is associated with a stupid notion that you slept with the groom. Make of this what you will.”
A third commented: “This is not a flattering dress and red is not generally worn at a wedding.”
The red will draw attention. It’s a big no-no

Whilst someone else agreed: “Not really, seems super casual for the dress code and pretty revealing for a catholic service.”
At the same time, another user posted: “Bright red is going to stand out in any photo, even if it’s a photo of the bride and groom dancing and you are far in the background….
“The red will draw attention. It’s a big no-no.”
Meanwhile, one troll claimed: “You need bust support.”
However, at the same time, one woman penned: “I dunno what everyone else is talking about, it’s gorgeous.”
And a second chimed in: “I think this dress is gorgeous. Steam it before the wedding!”
