DANIEL O’Donnell has said he had a “great time” at his wife’s son’s wedding with a “smashing” celebration.

Michael tied the knot with his Australian-born wife Sarah, in a stunning wedding ceremony just outside Florence.

Daniel had shared stunning pictures with the newly weds, Majella’s daughter, Siobhan, husband Gavin, and their three children, Olivia, Archie and Luke.

The 62-year-old looked dapper wearing a light blue suit with a blue and white floral shirt and black shoes.

Daniel appeared on Ireland AM yesterday morning and spoke about the special day.

The singer said: “We had a great time. Michael, our son, lives in Melbourne with his wife now.

“They wanted to get married in Europe – her people are all Greek. So they decided on Italy.”

Daniel revealed that wedding party partook in the Greek custom of plate smashing, which confused his grandson Archie.

He said: “We had a great time. It was a bit Greek – they broke the plates. We were smashing plates.

“Our wee grandson Archie was standing… I had his hand caught and they started breaking the plates and he said, ‘What are they doing gaga?’ and I said, ‘Oh this is something they do’.

“And he said, ‘That’s a terrible waste of money gaga’.”

He added: “But we had a great time and it’s great to have nice celebrations.”

Last year Daniel appeared on the Late Late Show with Patrick Kielty and was praised as a “national treasure”.

The singer returned to Australia and New Zealand in March 2024.

Speaking about the tour, Patrick made an X-rated pun saying: “Are you still as big Down Under as you used to be?”

Daniel replied jokingly: “Well, you never can tell. That’ll have to be investigated. We’ll have to see the proof in the pudding.”

The Co Down man asked Patrick to sing his hit song I Just Want To Dance With You.

Daniel was happy to sing a few bars and Patrick surprised him by dressing up as him.

Actor Ricky Tomlinson joined Daniel later on in the show.

The trio were chatting about Ricky’s banjo playing when Daniel made another dirty comment saying: “I’ll tell you something – you’re very lucky to have a big banjo.”

Ricky, Patrick and the entire audience burst into tears laughing.

Patrick replied: “It’s very true. I can only manage a ukulele.”

Daniel replied: “I’ve a mouth organ myself.”
