RTE star Donal Skehan has revealed the real reason he “never wore” a wedding ring and why his son changed his mind.
The Irish chef and his wife Sofie, tied the knot back in 2015 in Dublin’s City Hall surrounded by loved ones – including their dog Max.
Now, 10 years on the lovebirds share two kids together, Noah, seven, and five-year-old Ollie.
But, Donal recently revealed how he “never wanted” to wear a wedding ring when it came to getting married.
In the first episode of his brand new podcast with his RTE pal Arthur Gourounlian, the TV presenter told listeners: “I literally bought the cheapest wedding band, because I was never going to wear one.”
Arthur hilariously cut across asking: “Wait did you say cheapest wedding band? Sophie I am so sorry baby.”
Donal explained: “I went into the jewellers beside Powerscourt in Dublin and got Sophie a ring and proposed to her, but I personally never wanted to wear a ring.
“And people were like, ‘Well you should obviously just have one on the day’, because you swap rings and so I got this cheap ring, I think it was 70 quid.”
Arthur hilariously remarked: “Oh my god I can’t cope.”
Donal replied: “But I was never going to wear it!”
The 38-year-old then recalled the moment he finally decided he would start to wear his wedding band – but it wasn’t down to his wife “badgering him” about it.
After the birth of his first son, Noah, Donal joked: “Yeah when the child was born maybe that is when I started to take our marriage seriously.”
Arthur immediately burst into a fit of laughter and added: “Oh now it’s getting serious.”
In true Donal humour, the dad-of-two went on to describe how even after he started wearing the ring, he had to stop because his “fingers got too fat”.
And that’s not the only fun the two lads have got up to this week.
Donal was left in stitches after he had a driving disaster with Arthur yesterday.
LOTS OF LAUGHS
Yesterday, Arthur enjoyed a wholesome dinner out with Donal, his wife Sophie, and their two kids.
Later that day, the Dublin foodie posted a hysterical clip of Arthur attempting to park his car, after he failed to do so himself.
But, it seems Donal immediately regretted his decision after he claimed that Arthur parked his car “like an old woman.”
In the background of the clip Arthur could be seen erratically steering the car whilst throwing a dig at Donal for his poor attempt at parking.
‘SHUT UP AND PARK’
The celebrity dancer hilariously remarked: “How are you such a good business man but you literally can’t do anything but stress. You have to be positive.”
Donal looked terrified of Arthur’s driving as he panned the camera back to himself.
The 38-year-old then sheepishly remarked: “Please just park the car.”
But when Arthur continued to babble, Donal shouted: “Will you just shut up and park the car!”
Arthur immediately burst out laughing as he responded: “Well you didn’t believe I could do it and now look.”
