He will close the book on a decorated career that sees him as the fourth highest appearance maker for his country.

The 35-year-old will have plenty to fall back on, having forged a reputation for his gardening expertise.

And his life outside of rugby has long since blossomed into including a loving wife and three adorable kids.

Here, SunSport takes a look at his life off the pitch.

How old is Peter O’Mahony?

Peter O’Mahony was born on September 17, 1989, making him 35 years of age– 36 this year.

The flanker was born in Cork, and started his career in earnest with Presentation Brothers College, whom he captained, and Cork Con.

Such has been his leadership qualities that he also skippered the Ireland U18s, U20s, seniors, Munster, and British & Irish Lions.

He joined the Munster academy in 2008, making his debut in January 2010 and has played 192 times to date.

In this time, O’Mahony won the Magners League in 2010/11, and the United Rugby Championship in 2023.

His tenure with the province was in doubt towards the end of 2023/24, when he was subject to speculation that he could leave as contract talks dragged on.

It was eventually resolved, with O’Mahony signing a one-year contract that will run until the end of this season, when he will hang up the boots.

As for international rugby, O’Mahony made his senior debut against Italy in 2012 and has won 112 caps, five Six Nations, and two Grand Slams.

He captained Andy Farrell’s men to the 2024 title, having taken up the mantle from Johnny Sexton following his retirement after the 2023 World Cup.

Is he married?

Peter O’Mahony initially married his wife Jessica O’Mahony in 2020 in the midst of the Covid-19 lockdown.

However, they decided to tie the knot again at a lavish ceremony at Aix-en-Provence in the south of France in September 2022.

Both exchanged vows as they married after a long-term relationship that has been going strong for 15 years.

Many of the guests were Ireland and Munster rugby teammates, including Ireland skipper Johnny Sexton, along with family members and friends.

They celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary during a holiday in Portugal in July 2024.

Spending time there led to Jess donning a replica mask of the Algarve nation’s most famous son – Cristiano Ronaldo.

And the Munster warrior opted to go with that as the photo in his adoring Instagram post marking another year of blissful marriage.

He joked: “Married 4 years! And she’s never looked better! Happy anniversary Jessica.”

Jess wasn’t long in responding online as well as in person as she commented: “You’re a lucky man!”

Do they have kids?

Peter and Jessica have three kids together – Indie, Theo, and Ralph.

Daughter Indie is their eldest, having been born in July 2016 and being eight years of age.

The O’Mahony clan marked her eighth birthday in style with a Harry Potter-themed birthday party.

The mum-of-three got her Sorting Hat on and turned House O’Mahony into House Gryffindor for the day.

Indie’s younger brothers are five and four, respectively, with Ralph having had his own specially themed birthday last week.

Ralph turned four on Monday and did so in style, with balloons proclaiming his age and a custom-designed birthday cake.

Based on the Disney Pixar film series ‘Cars’, they ordered the cake through ‘Trace of Cakes’: a Cork-based company run by Tracy Desmond Bell.

Jessica praised the “incredible” cake while posting a host of pics from the special day.

She captioned the photos by saying: “Our littlest is 4 🥺🥺

“”Happy Birthday gorgeous boy ❤

In one photo that she shared to her Instagram Story, Ralph’s older brother Theo could be seen with a rather glum look on his face.

The mother-of-three quipped: “When it’s your sibling’s birthday…and not yours”.

O’Mahony The Gardener

While he is most famously known for his exploits on the rugby pitch, Peter O’Mahony has formed a reputation as a gardener as well.

He often gets his kids to help out, with his eldest son doing so during the freezing temperatures earlier this year.

As well as tending to the family lawn, the 35-year-old has planted a variety of plants and vegetables to fill the garden out.

He hosted an Instagram Q&A last year in which he answered a variety of questions related to the garden.

When asked what it was that got him into the hobby O’Mahony pointed to an experience with his grandmother when he was a child.

He said: “My grandmother had a gardener & when I was young I used to love to watch & help him.

“I always get my kids involved now and hope they’ll continue it in later life.

“I’ve been cutting grass for anyone that would let me since I am about 10!! I used to to have a few regulars.”
