CLARE hurling star Peter Duggan started 2025 off in style after getting engaged to long-time girlfriend Aoife.
The soon-to-be Mrs Duggan revealed the wonderful news on Instagram, revealing that he had popped the question on Saturday.

After popping the question, they met up with family and friends to celebrate their engagement.
Posting to Instagram, Aoife said: “8.02.2025 A very exciting 24hours”
The comments were full of well wishes from followers, with Niamh De Brun – wife of Kilkenny hurling icon TJ Reid – saying: “Congratulations”
Nicola posted: “a massive congratulations Aoife and Peter … that’s amazing news”
Rachel posted: “The best newshuge congratulations to you both, enjoy all the celebrations”
Shauna said: “Aw guys. I’m absolutely delighted for ye! Congratulations”
The All-Ireland winner has been dating Aoife Murphy for several years.
They moved to Melbourne together in 2020.
Speaking to The Clare Echo at the time, he outlined that he was keen to sample living abroad while he was still young and before he’d set off on the career ladder.
He explained: “Playing inter-county now there is a lot involved and the thought of being able to step away for a year and learn from experiences.
“I plan on starting my own business when I come back home in landscaping straight away so being able to build up experience abroad.
“I’ve done a decent amount of it at home since I finished college in May and I’ve been working away in landscaping since.
“When I’m away I’ll be able to gain some invaluable experience that I wouldn’t be able to do at home.”
They would return to Ireland and, in 2024, Duggan reached the pinnacle of his on-field career when Clare beat Cork in the All-Ireland hurling final.
The Clooney-Quin clubman was a teenager when he picked up his first Celtic Cross medal with the Banner in 2013.
He said he was ‘convinced’ at the time that it would be champagne and garlands every year after that as a young group burst onto the scene.
But while he won an All-Star award as the Championship’s top scorer in 2018, there was an 11-year wait before he got his hands on Liam again.
Duggan played a key role in the landmark final win, clipping two points and bringing vital punch to the attack when he moved to the full-forward line with Shane O’Donnell in the third quarter.
Speaking after the final, he said: “It was surreal really, everything we did for the week afterwards. Just going to the parishes, and you could ask any of the players, when you go to your own local parish it’s chilling stuff.
“I remember when we pulled into Feakle, all the kids walked with us and as we were going along it was just pats on the back, everyone delighted, signing things, and it was the same everywhere we went.
“There’s a few of us involved from Clooney-Quin and we walked up from the bottom of the village all the way up to the top and there was a big cheer when we got up to Malachy’s Bar.
“There must have been a thousand people there, at 3 o’clock on a Friday. People just made the time to come out and visit us.
“Did I make sure to enjoy it? Oh 100 percent! That was the one thing we all said, that whatever happens we’ll embrace every single opportunity that comes out of this.
“You want to enjoy it and make sure that we’ve done whatever we possibly could to really make the most out of it.”
