PRIME Time broadcaster Fran McNulty has jetted off on honeymoon after tying the knot with his RTE colleague wife in a “beautiful” wedding.

The Longford native, who said he got a “second chance at life” when he met RTE producer Doireann O’Hara, got married over the weekend.

And they will now jet off on their honeymoon, just in time for Fran’s 45th birthday.

Newlywed Fran said: “After a beautiful weekend celebrating our wedding, the out of office is on and some time away to celebrate some more!”

The pair got engaged on New Year’s Day last, when Fran proposed on Doolough beach in Mayo, where he has a holiday home.

And the happy couple said I do on Saturday December 7 in a lovely winter ceremony in front of family, friends and RTE colleagues.

The couple enjoyed a city centre wedding, posing after their nuptials in St Stephen’s Green.

Doireann looked stunning in a floor-length ivory gown with a long train, and kept warm against the winter chill with a short cream jacket on top.

Fran looked dapper in a navy three-piece suit with a blue tie.

The guest list included Prime Time presenter Miriam O’Callaghan and her husband Steve Carson.

Miriam shared a look at the special day, saying: “It was such a special day yesterday celebrating the wedding of the beautiful couple @franmcnulty & @dee_tv_irl – gorgeous couple & all of us Prime Time & RTE folk had a truly wonderful day.”

And she remembered Prime Time colleagues who would have loved to celebrate the day, adding: “We all greatly missed though our former recently departed colleagues Rhona & Paul who no doubt whatsoever were watching it all from Heaven.”

Miriam previously told how she was “beyond broken-hearted” at the death of pal Rhona O’Byrne, who worked as a production manager for RTE’s News and Current Affairs TV division, and sadly passed away in October.

SECOND CHANCE

Fran’s first marriage ended around six years ago and he previously told how he was over the moon to find love again.

He told the RTE Guide: “Meeting Doireann is that second chance in life that you never think you’d get.”

However, the happy occasion didn’t come without heartbreak for Fran as his two brothers sadly passed away before he turned 24.

He explained: “I was the youngest in a house where there was a lot of illness. Derek had cystic fibrosis and died at the age of five, before I was born.

“Gary had epilepsy and multiple complexities and Gillian also has cystic fibrosis.”

Fran spoke about his heartbreak that his brother Gary, who died suddenly in 2004 following an epileptic seizure, wouldn’t be at his big day.

He said: “He was a great character, so much fun to be around and there isn’t a day that goes by when I don’t think of him. I also think of what could be.

“Gary should be at my wedding, but he won’t be. Even 20 years on, those life events catch you and I think, ‘Jesus, Gary should be here’.”

Fran revealed how he tries to stay positive and lives “every day like it’s his last” as he knows “life can be over in a flash”.

The popular presenter’s sister Gillian played a significant role at his wedding.

Fran told: “I don’t have my two brothers with me any more, but Gillian will be there and that’s huge for me.”
